Russian religion

Between the years of 1200AD-1700AD Russia had lots of problems. During the 1200’s Moscow, Russia was captured by Mongols and most of the population fled from the south. The Mongols were in control of Moscow for a long time.

During 1240AD “Kiev was sacked and the Mongol Khans of the Golden Horde at Sari on Volga established control over most of European Russia for about 2 centuries.” The citizens of Russia were getting mad so in 1380 Dimitry Donskoi grandson of Ivan the first, won the first major Russian victory against the Mongols at Kulikovo.

In the year 1485 the Russians eliminated one main rival at Tver but 5 years earlier in 1480 the Golden Horde captured Kulikovo. A century later Kulikovo weakened because Ivan the III challenged the Mongols overlordship by refusing the tributes.

The years between the 1400s and the 1600s were still full of wars. In 1478 Moscow’s annexation of Novgorod and in 1510 Pskov allowed trade and opened the gates to religious and cultural activity. In 1547 Ivan the IV assumed the title of tsar. He claimed the succession of Byzantium and the Golden Horde.

By the time of 1552 the conquest of the Khanates from Kazan began and went on into 1556. The conquest of Astrakhan began in 1556 and it put Russia in control of Volga and in 1581 the conquest went into Siberia which was conquered on the western regions. The ones in control of the western regions were Cossacks the leader was Yermak Timofeyvich.

Ivan IV tried to eliminate competition of Lithuania and gain port on Baltic. This led to a 25 year war against Poland-Lithuania, Livonia, and Sweden which was followed by devastating raids from Crimean Tatars against Moscow. The war went from 1558-1583.the raids from the Crimean Tatars seriously debilitated Russia.

In 1682 Peter the first ruled. He ruled from 1682-1725. Peter 1 brought concert of European nations. He struggled almost 20 years with Charles XIII of Sweden from 1700-1721.russia went to war with Ottoman Turkey from 1710-1711. Russia went to war with Persia from 1722-1723. Two years later Peter 1 died and a new era began.
